project description

The multilingual, interdisciplinary project “Água” invites writers, researchers and activists from Brazil, Germany and Austria to explore the theme of water from a literary-theatrical angle. Against the backdrop of climate change and biopolitics, water plays an existential role for humanity as the basis of life and in geopolitical games of tug-of-war. In four public forums which will take place in hybrid form from summer 2024 to summer 2025, the participants will discuss questions on the usage of and access to water. The debates will be recorded and artistically accompanied by a broad-based, collaborative writing process which will culminate in a performance in autumn 2025 at the Literaturforum in the Brecht House in Berlin.

Artistic direction: Eva Schörkhuber and Elena Messner
Participants: Natasha Angel, Maroula Blades, Trudruá Dorrico, Juliana Fausto, Sarah Habersack, Anne Hahn, Maria Milisavljević, Julia Raiz, Rubia Salgado and others

Discussion forums: Literaturforum im Brecht-Haus, Berlin: summer 2024 to summer 2025
