Project Description
In this theatre production, artists from Germany and Israel examine the history of the displaced persons camp, formerly located near the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. From 1945 until 1950, this was “Camp Homeland” for up to 12,000 Jewish inhabitants, many of whom eventually emigrated to Israel. The autobiographical novels by Jewish author Lizzie Doron serve as the starting point for presenting a history that stretches back several generations. The story begins in the displaced persons camp in the late 1940s and sheds light on the relationship of violence, silence and displacement to the present day. The performances will take place in Celle starting in April 2025 and in Israel in June 2025, marking 80 years since the liberation of Bergen-Belsen. The production is being developed by the Schlosstheater Celle in cooperation with the Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation and jointly carried out with the Jaffa Theatre in Tel Aviv.
