The Bottom Line/What Really Matters

A Doppelpass-funded project by the Junges Ensemble Stuttgart and the Citizen.KANE.Kollektiv

One group goes to school, the other stands in front of it. One group is picked up by their parents, the other by their customers. Only several hundred metres away from the Junges Ensemble Stuttgart (JES) is Stuttgart’s red-light district. That’s where adults and minors alike “work the streets” day after day and night after night. Youth theatre on one side, prostitution on the other. These are parallel worlds which hardly notice each other despite being so close to one another.

In cooperation with the Citizen.KANE.Kollektiv and young adults ages 16 to 22, JES has developed a theatrical research project to carefully approach this topic. In the second phase of collaboration, the project will develop a youth theatre production which, based on research efforts in Stuttgart and Romania, will explore the fraught relationship between the body and consumption in the capitalist world.
