To mark the World Football Championships, the Brazilian cultural ministry initiated a German-Brazilian cultural programme titled Copa da Cultura featuring theatre projects and exhibitions by Brazilian artists in Germany. The theatre project series "Return Match" was performed in Brazil and developed in collaboration with innovative directors and directing collectives from Germany and local partners in Brazil. Frank Castorf directed a piece by Brazil's "national playwright" Nelson Rodigues. The group Rimini Protokoll developed the theatre project "100 Guns in Case of Emergency" together with police cadets in Berlin and São Paolo. Gob Squad planned two productions of their city-film project Super Night Shot in Rio and São Paulo. Nicolas Stehmann worked jointly with actors, dancers and choreographers to develop an artistic translation of the rural, ethnic culture in "Cavalho Marinho".
