SumSum². Endless Confusion of Love and Language
A joint programme by the Theater Erlangen and Teatr Pokoleniy, St. Petersburg (Russia) - supported by the Wanderlust Fund
This theatre partnership focuses on cultural foreignness in reference to the relationship between Germany and Russia. The first step will be a joint production of "SumSum²", a play about cultural and language barriers, by the Swiss dramatist Laura de Weck. A German-Russian version of the play will be developed in two separate rehearsal phases which will take place in St. Petersburg and Erlangen. This will be followed by an exchange of theatre artists and personnel, along with a German and Russian guest performance, chosen on the basis of the prior collaboration.
Theatre practice in Germany and Russia differ in fundamental ways. For example, the Teatr Pokoleniy [Theatre of the Generations] is known for its strong visual tradition and highly physical style of acting. The goal is to apply foreign theatre traditions and aesthetics into one’s theatre work at home and present these to audiences.
