Performance Venue: City
A Doppelpass-funded project by the Mecklenburgische Staatstheater and “Kulturfiliale”
Based on the programme motto “Performance Venue: City“” the Hannover-based group “Kulturfiliale” and the Mecklenburgische Staatstheater assessed the mood of Schwerin starting September 2012. Throughout the city – in front of the castle, the Großer Dreesch district, in vacant buildings and industrial wasteland – the project participants accompanied the citizens of Schwerin in search of their utopias and desires, convictions and memories, and the stuff of which the future is made. All of Schwerin’s inhabitants were invited to reflect on, debate and develop their ideas.
In addition to four major projects, additional smaller-scaled events were planned – readings, concerts, installations, with which the public spontaneously and flexibly responded to new experiences, contacts, observations and discoveries. Following two years of theatre events throughout the city, the project concluded with a production in the Staatstheater in which citizens themselves presented their desires and visions.
