In the project “Gog/Magog” by the performance label internil, the Israeli artist Moran Sanderovich and the Berlin Theaterdiscounter present an “apocalyptic” disinformation campaign in four stages which explores online discussion forums on current crises (Ukraine, Syria, Europe, Israel). At each stage of their journey through the factual battles being waged on the Internet, the self-appointed “tribal members” gather around a different campfire and interpret the rubble of reality surrounding them. On their journey, they carry the classical handbooks for orientation: the Torah, the Bible, the Koran, and the current White Paper of the German army. All parts of the series make reference to Gog and Magog, the Biblical tribes that shall supposedly usher in the “end of days”.
Combining traditional narrative arts and total networking, the artists at Theaterdiscounter accept the burden of ultimately losing the battle for truth. In their performance, they interweave the methods of acting, performance and virtual reality in order to convert the digital back into the analogue.
