Future Shock

Technology and theatre form a poetic liaison in the works by the artists’ group GIESCHEand. Director Alexander Giesche and his group make so-called “zeitgeist objects” like 3-D glasses and vacuum-cleaning robots the protagonists on stage whose interaction with the performers produce “visual poems” – enchanting dramatic performances which almost effortlessly portray an attitude towards life that fluctuates between digital technology and the desire for contact.

GIESCHEand is responsible for producing the two-season project “Future Shock” at the Munich Kammerspiele. With utopias declared dead and a widespread reluctance to envision our tomorrow, the future has now returned and is fuelling the hope of better days in the form of new and ultra-new technologies. In this project, GIESCHEand explores the future, as well as the opportunities and drawbacks of technologies which seem like science fiction, but are already forging their way into our daily lives.

GIESCHEand will produce two performances in Munich and organise an open laboratory which will create a place for the future at the theatre and within the city. To conclude their two-year research at the Münchner Kammerspiele entitled “Future Shock”, GIESCHEand takes us on an excursion through the Internet. At the end of the season, it materialises for a weekend on the Corneliusbrücke.
