France en Scène – Theatre and Nouveau Cirque
Contemporary French theatre and nouveau cirque festival in Berlin
Although the newest German theatre productions are well-received in France, contemporary French theatre groups are hardly shown here in Germany. Several theatres in Berlin have been co-hosting the festival France en Scène which gave young French acting troupes the opportunity to introduce themselves to German audiences, and in so doing, create new impulses for further artistic exchange. The theme of the festival was the nouveau cirque, an art style that developed in France in the 1980s and eventually became known for its high artistic quality. Nouveau cirque combines circus elements, such as juggling and acrobatics, with techniques from other genres like modern dance, music and performance.
