Sound! – Start
Opening festival of the Hamburg Network for Contemporary Music
The New Music Network kicked off its project in Hamburg with a concert at the Rolf Liebermann Studio at the NDR broadcasting company and a large festival event at Kampnagel. On Saturday, 27 September, the Asko Ensemble, the Ensemble Resonanz and the NDR chorus performed works by Hans Werner Henze, Helmut Lachenmann and Gérard Grisey. On Sunday, September 28th, the festival programme featured performances by the Ensemble Intégrales, Ensemble Resonanz, Ensemble WireWorks and Ensemble 21 with works by Mauricio Kagel, Kaija Saariaho, Brian Ferneyhough and Burkhard Friedrich. The concerts were accompanied by film presentations, performances, an exhibition by the Finnish Music Information Center and the opening of the "sound container" with a sound installation by Katja Kölle. The sound container is a mobile musical centre, specially developed to acquaint audiences with New Music, and is the recognizable symbol of this network project in Hamburg.
