Projektbeschreibung

“Eternal Dawn” is a multimedia project at the interface of music theatre, performance and futuristic technology. The story is set in the not-so-distant future at a time when technically enhanced bodies and artificial beings populate the earth. The cyborg-like creatures have artificial body parts, such as eyes equipped with scanning software and servo-motorised muscles. The musicians don’t play conventional instruments but rather produce sound by using physical enhancements – from high-tech apparatus to metallic limbs to technically modulated voices. “Eternal Dawn” investigates the relationship to our body, its functionality, its construction and its optimisation.

Performing alongside the trained musicians of the Decoder Ensemble and the dancers Leah Marojevic and Gyung Moo Kim, the performance will also include actors who wear prostheses themselves. The development of the technological requirements for the production is being supported by international partners. For instance, the GRAME Centre National de Création Musicale will allow the production to use its infrastructure to develop the musical live electronics. The interface will be developed in cooperation with Kampnagel and the Ligeti Center in Hamburg, while the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) will oversee the mechatronic requirements. Robotics experts from the TUHH, King’s College in London and the Ars Electronica Festival will participate in a public roundtable to discuss the technical and artistic aspects of the project.
