Real Time
The Art of Slowness
Following an exhibition on the subject of “space” in 2013, the Kunstmuseum Bonn has developed an exhibition titled “Real Time” which examined another existential coordinate of life – time. The exhibition focused on the contradictory nature of time and temporality, the difference between measured synchronicity and the subjective experience of time stretching, condensing, slowing and moving.
The Kunstmuseum Bonn presented a diverse array of artistic positions, particularly film and video works, supplemented by photography, drawings, paintings and installations. The selected pieces did not so much emphasise speed and acceleration as they did languidity, repetition and standstill. These were pieces which invented their own systems of time or freezed special moments in time forever.
