A New Way of Seeing

Young art from Israel

Many Germans are unfamiliar with the fascinating and diverse young art scene in Israel. The exhibition "Young art from Israel" presented works by approximately thirty young artists and shed light on an art scene that developed under very special conditions quite unlike any in Western Europe.
In planning the exhibition the curators consciously decided against a fixed thematic focus. They wanted to do justice to the wide array of themes and media used by the invited artists and avoid restricting their expression to the social and political conflicts in the Middle East. The exhibition explored the issues, themes and forms of expression which are important to artists in Israel. It presented a wide variety of artistic forms, including painting, photography, sculpture/object art and open-air installations. The goal was to increase the recognition of these young artists internationally and introduce their work to larger audiences at this early phase of their artistic development.
