George Maciunas - The Dream of Fluxus
Exhibition
As a co-initiator of the Fluxus movement, George Maciunas is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. The exhibition George Maciunas - The Dream of Fluxus was a major art show that included works by a variety of artists. For the first time, this exhibition focused on Maciunas' personal commitment to around twenty international avant-garde artists. The self-appointed "chairman" of Fluxus was also involved in many collaborative works. The idea of producing works with no monetary value, the goal Fluxus began pursuing in 1961, is particularly evident in these collaborative works. The Kunsthalle Bielefeld honoured Maciunas with this exhibition as the "idea man" who played a crucial role in revitalizing contemporary concept art and performance in Europe and New York.
