Between May 2016 and March 2017, the Federal Cultural Foundation staged the second mobile academy “Fellow me!” as part of the International Museum Fellowship Programme. Nineteen young international curators and guest researchers are currently participating in the programme, which allows them to work at museums at Germany for 18 months and develop new exhibition and presentation formats. Based on the motto Designing Ethics, the academy supported the fellows and worked to initiate an in-depth discussion on new presentation forms and processes of change in museums.
The thematic spectrum of this academy series corresponded to the eight “Codes of Ethics for Museums (external link, opens in a new window)” put forth by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). This ethical code is valid worldwide and serves as the basis for the activities of museums and museum professionals. How are these codes being implemented? Are they put into practice on a daily basis? Where do they fall short with regard to the post-colonial state of museum activities?
The mobile academy was primarily targeted at the fellows and their mentors. External experts and professionals were invited to participate at selected events.
The academy programme, in which various cooperation partners and international guest speakers were involved, comprised workshops, excursions, seminars, symposiums and other events. The first mobile academy took place between May 2013 and October 2014.
