Magazine #21, released in October 2013, features articles on current programmes and events funded by the Federal Cultural Foundation.
The central theme of this issue is war. Manfred Hettling and Herfried Münkler offer their personal views on the topic of victim/sacrifice in times of war. This discussion comes at the launch of two major events organised by the Federal Cultural Foundation – “Dance over Trenches. The 100 Anniversary of The Rite of Spring” and “Political Romanticism” in Frankfurt am Main. In another article, war reporter Carolin Emcke tries to explain why it is so difficult to talk about war.
In an article by Christoph Kappes, the focus turns to the upcoming conference “As Darkness Falls” which addresses the issue of digital privacy – an extremely virulent topic in light of the recent NSA scandals.
Magazine#21 also includes pieces by A.L. Kennedy, Marcel Beyer, Andreas Platthaus, Sreten, Kornél Mundruczó, Andrea Tompa, György Szabó, Béla Pintér and Árpád Schilling.
The artist and illustrator Andree Volkmann designed stamps with war images for this issue. Several images are based on a photo of Stravinsky’s 1913 world premiere of “The Rite of Spring” in Paris.
Please note that the printed version of the Magazine is only available in German.
